When Should I Start Looking for a Wedding Band or DJ?

Every week, Fun DMC responds to several emails inquiring about our availability and pricing. While it is wonderful for our schedule to be filled with exciting events, weddings, and shows, that also means we often have to send the disappointing response telling eager brides and grooms “unfortunately, we’re already booked for your date”.

“So, when is the best time to start looking for entertainment?”

The easiest response to this commonly asked asked question, is ASAP! But if you’re looking for a few easy tips to follow, here are a few general guidelines we’ve created based on our years of experience in the wedding industry.

Timeline Tips for Hiring Wedding Entertainment

If you have your heart set on a specific element or vendor for your wedding, plan early and be flexible. If you know you want to have your wedding at a particular or popular venue, identify the general time of year you want to be married and then contact the venue to request their availability. This can applied to ANY wedding vendor! In fact, we are performing at two weddings this spring who’s date was set based on our availability.

If your wedding date is already set and is inflexible, we recommend you begin contacting wedding vendors very soon after you set your date. These vendor categories include (but are not limited to) entertainment, photographers, videographers, and caterers. The earlier you contact vendors, the more likely they are to have your date available. For reference, while we generally book weddings/events 8-12 months in advance. However, we have booked several events 18-24 months in advance.

If you are planning your wedding during a “busy” season, we recommend you contact us at least 10-12 months in advance. Currently, April, May, June, September, & October are our busiest months for weddings and events. Regionally, these tend to be the busiest months for other wedding vendors as well.

If you are planning your wedding around a major holiday or significant date, we recommend that you contact us 12-16 months in advance. In addition to performing at weddings, we also perform at local events and holiday celebrations and often have several inquires for these significant dates.

If you’re date is fast approaching, remember it’s never too late to at least ask! There is always a chance we may be available! In the event we aren’t available, we are always happy to provide recommendations for other trusted vendors!

We would love to be a part of your day! Let us know how we can help you plan your perfect wedding or event!
