24k Magic Is How We Do It

Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It” is perfect mashup material. It’s a fun, bouncy melody with that catchy call-and-response chorus and it fits pretty easily over most songs that are upbeat and in a minor key. Originally we had it paired with Ed Sheeran’s “Don’t” (something he even occasionally does live), but it wasn’t feeling right when we tried it live. When Bruno Mars came out with 24k Magic last winter, we were itching to pull it off and after some trial and error with other songs, we plugged This Is How We Do It back in and couldn’t believe how well it flowed. One of the processes for when we put together new arrangements is one of us ends up making a “demo” mashup for the rest of the band to learn. Sometimes it’s pretty rough but gives the band the general idea of where to take it, but in this case, it was a good enough combo to be presentable. Enjoy!
