1. Who are you/what’s your elevator pitch to couples interested in your work?

We’re AptFoto. We’re the “them” in “We should have gone with them instead.” Playful grandstanding aside, we’ve been told many times over by our clients that our eye for capturing a scene is unlike most of what’s out there. We’re humbled by that.

2. What do you think are important questions a couple should ask when choosing a photographer?

“What moves you emotionally?” I think I would want to know that, personally. A wedding is an emotional day. Will my photographer be in tune with that, or will they simply be shooting because they’re getting paid.

3. How does a couple pick a good photographer out of the dozens in the area?

Research, Interview, and ultimately go with someone who feels like family or a good friend (who can also be direct with you.) You need a photographer who can direct not only the people, but the photos.

4. What is your go-to tip for making the wedding day go smoothly for everyone?

Realize that apart from the vows, it’s not that big of a deal. Don’t get so wrapped up in trying to make it perfect. Let the imperfections happen. Those are the moments you’ll be laughing and talking about with your grandkids. Give them some stories to pass down to their kids.

5. What advice do you always give a couple before their wedding day?

When you’re walking down the aisle, always remember there’s a camera pointed at you, so smile! Oh, and if you fall, We’re putting that on YouTube.

6. What can a couple do to make sure they look good in their photos?

Be themselves. Don’t try and act cool or sexy. Being cool and sexy happens naturally when you can be yourself.

7. Why is wedding photography so expensive?

It’s a luxury, not a necessity. You’re also paying for experience, creativity, adaptability, and spontaneity.

8. Why don’t you give out the original pictures or the whole day’s shoot?

When you order a sandwich from Jimmy John’s, you don’t want the whole head of lettuce, uncut tomato, dough, and unsliced meat. You expect the finished product. It’s the same with wedding photos. We want to give you the finished product.

9. How far in advance should a couple book?

As soon as you have your date locked in with the venue(s)

10. Should a couple tip a photographer?

That’s up to the couple. Personally, I would say no, unless you really want to show your appreciation. I’ve been tipped a few times. I’ll refuse once, and then I’ll gladly take their money.
