Why Use Uplighting at Your Wedding Reception

Chances are if you’ve been to a wedding reception in the last few years, you’ve seen uplighting and the way it enhances a guest’s experience. Lighting can be one of the most transformative elements in any space and professional planners often encourage their clients to set apart a section of their budget for accent lighting.

Previously, we’ve talked about how lighting can affect your wedding and how uplighting can make for a memorable event, and we have even partnered with a lighting provider, Springfield Wedding Rentals. As this style goes from a trend to a staple, we thought we would touch again on the difference illuminating a room in color can make.

Visibility

In an intimate, low-lighting environment, uplighting and other techniques can be used to highlight a venue’s architectural features, illuminate the edges of a room to make it feel larger and fuller, and enhance the draping and floral design of the reception. Given the low cost of these lights, it’s an easy way to showcase all of the beautiful features of the event. Additionally, photographers and videographers appreciate the splashes of color used to highlight the backgrounds of what could be typical pictures otherwise.

Variety

For all the time and thought put into wedding colors and coordinating them everywhere, why not let lighting help by adding pops of those colors around the venue? The beauty of using LED lights is that they can be programmed to match almost any color combination. You can also take advantage of this by changing the shades throughout the reception. If your cocktail hour starts at sunset, you can use lighter tones like golds and yellows. During the meal, you can move to a softer hue that simulates candlelight. As the party kicks up for the entertainment, you can go bolder with bright pinks and blues. When Fun DMC provides the uplighting, we can even have them set to change and match our stage and dance floor lighting from song to song!

When it’s all said and done, wedding lighting, particularly uplighting, can truly set the entire tone of the reception, and it should not be an afterthought. As with any vendor, wedding planners usually trust with people that understand their vision and requirements, and brides can benefit greatly from that relationship. If you decide to go at it alone, take the lighting as seriously as you do your invitations, cake, dress, catering, and so on. You won’t regret it!
