Take 10, Middle School Dances, and Bass Drums

Last weekend saw Fun DMC in the midst of a whirlwind of events. Thursday night found us at part of a very special event. Our lead male vocalist, the multi talented Dr. Albert Capati, debuted the latest of his many musical projects, Take 10, a powerhouse group whose stylings include Chicago, Earth, Wind, And Fire, and Here Come The Mummies. Fun DMC was invited to participate in the event and we could not have been more honored to share the stage with such an incredibly talented group of musicians. The Curve Inn was a packed house pretty much from the start as Fun DMC brought their unique brand of mashups and medleys to a crowd full of new faces. We continued to break in some new material such as “Want To Want To Dance With Somebody” and “Can’t Feel My Face” as well as our classic ‘80s medley. Fun DMC closed out with our latest concoction known as “Gangnam Busters” and of course, Dr. Capati killed it. After a quick changeover, Take 10 took the stage and blew the roof off the place. To say that their debut was well-received would be a huge understatement. Fun DMC was proud to be a part of Take 10’s breakout performance that will no doubt lead to great things for them this summer.

In addition to the band, the event included a large photo booth complete with props, games, and food. A large crowd of 8th graders crowded around the band as they played many of their favorite radio hits as well as introducing them to some old school hip-hop. One of the band’s favorite moments every show is the incorporation of polaroid cameras during the song “Hey Ya.” It had even more of an impact on a generation that was born at least a decade after this technology was retired. This show also introduced our latest mashup “Can’t Hold Uma”, a combination of Fall Out Boy’s “Uma Thurman” and “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Before the night was over, Fun DMC and the students at GMS took one of the largest group selfies in recent memory. Of course our Instagram account gained a significant bump in followers.

Midway through our ‘80s Medley, it became apparent that Talon had punched a hole in his kick drum head. Ever the consummate professional, Talon continued on even utilizing his floor tom in place of the kick when he could. The band announced a quick break and went to work repairing the drum the only way they could: with a massive roll of gaff tape. While Aaron and Talon worked quickly with only the aid of a fan’s phone flashlight, Albert serenaded the audience with a rare moment of crooning with the Bruno Mars song, “When I Was Your Man.” No sooner had the last notes of this ballad disappeared into the air than the band was back in full force. The mended drum head held for the remainder of the evening as the bar patrons danced the night away.

Fun DMC will enjoy a welcome upcoming weekend off before charging into wedding season. Hope to see you all soon.
