The Boar's Nest, The Dorsey Wedding, and First Christian Church

The Boars Nest Athens ILThere is no doubt that this past weekend was Fun DMC’s most jam-packed of the year so far. It began on Friday evening at Athens’ most celebrated venue, The Boar’s Nest. As our usual sound crew of Callie and Chad were unavailable that night, Fun DMC reached out to Closing Time’s now-retired FOH tech and world’s greatest guitar player’s wife, Laura Reynolds. As per usual, the band put on a high-energy show pulling out all the stops and sticking the landing with a record-breaking load-out time.

On Saturday, a weary band gathered at The Rail Golf Course reception tent for an early morning load in and set up for the Dorsey wedding reception. As the coffee from Caribou slowly brought us back to life, we were fortunate enough to witness Stephanie Irby of “Having A Ball Productions” putting the final decorating touches on the tent interior, creating one of the most beautiful settings in our recollection. Following setup, Robert made his way back to Central Baptist Church to run sound for Ryan and Brittney’s wedding. It was an odd trifecta for Robert as his three primary circles of CBC, CrossFit Instinct (of which Ryan and Brittney were members before relocating to Maryland) and Fun DMC had come together for one event.

Following the ceremony, the cast and crew returned to The Rail for one of the most epic wedding receptions of the year. Nelson’s Catering was on site preparing their signature grilled entrees, videographer Bruce James Bales of DEFT Entertainment was preparing to capture the evening on film. the craft beer flowed freely, and Springfield Photo Booth was staged with all assortment of props and silly hats; the only thing we were missing was the wedding party.

Talon HolmesRobert and Aaron ventured outside to find a small crisis brewing as the new Mrs. Dorsey was unable to find her phone and clutch. Since Apple’s find my phone app is awesome, we quickly located the missing items: back at the church. Now to some, this might not seem like that big of a deal. But to Fun DMC, it was an opportunity to go above and beyond the call. As Robert introduced the wedding party, officially kicking off the night, Talon Holmes and Albert Capati raced back to the church, secured the clutch and phone and arrived back at the reception just in time for dinner. Cake was cut, a father and daughter danced, a bouquet was tossed, and Fun DMC took the stage right on schedule.

Joining the band on this night in the role of cinematographer was none other than Charles Young, the director of Albert’s now infamous “Can’t Feel My Face” parody video. Along with Charles, Jude Ann and Nicole Olson were onsite to provide make-up support for the band. For most of us, this was a new yet enjoyable experience and definitely helped to refine our features during the video shoot. The evening wore on, slowing to a crawl as we tried to load out for what seemed like days. We returned to our homes and while Sunday was a day off for some, we soon found ourselves back on that bright stage Monday night, this time at Decatur’s First Christian Church.

First Christian Church Decatur ILThey were celebrating their volunteers and had invited Fun DMC to be the after-party band. The theme of the event was “The Tonight Show”, featuring everything from an opening monologue to “Wheel Of Musical Impressions” with Katey and Albert. The band burned through a one-hour set before shutting it down and filling up that trailer one last time. We finished the evening off at Forsyth’s Buffalo Wild Wings (mostly because Perkins sits on a throne of lies) with First Christian’s Family Ministries Pastor, Josh Koskinen. If we’re keeping it real, what the dining experience lacked was more than made up for by the company of friends.

This Friday night, Fun DMC is taking the stage with Off The Wall and The Shenanigans for one of the biggest parties of the summer. Don’t miss the Fat Ass 5K Craft Beer And Cigar Festival.
