How do you prepare/warmup to sing for a whole show?

I usually take it pretty easy on warmups – I like humming some scales gently when I’m getting ready to just warm it up a tad and then I’ll do some of my old school opera warm ups if I’m feeling tired. I’ve been pretty lucky in respect to the fact that our first set has usually been the perfect sequence for a solid warm up for the more demanding tunes later on.

What is your drink of choice on a show night?

I enjoy vodka and water. Or just water. If I’m feeling a certain way I’ll sip on some Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey.

What’s your remedy when your voice is gone and the show is about to start?

That Tennessee Honey in some tea works wonders! Also like ClearVoice vocal spray.

What singers inspire you?

Sharon Jones. Joss Stone. Janis Joplin. Aretha Franklin.

What song has challenged you the most?

When I was with the Vatos, we did Walking on Sunshine – and although it’s a pretty simple song, it kept going and going and I felt the only way to get through it without cracking was to talk sing the end and it worked. But I was spent after that one! There was reason behind its placement in the sets! The very end!
